Product Information
Full details
The Mackey EquiSential Padded Lunge Rein is designed for equestrians looking for a reliable, comfortable tool for daily groundwork and training sessions. Its key benefit lies in the 1-inch cushion webbing that prevents rope burn and ensures a secure grip for the handler. While it offers excellent durability and length, users should note that the bright red color may show dirt more easily than darker alternatives, requiring regular cleaning to maintain its appearance.

FAQs
Is the material waterproof?
The cushion webbing is water-resistant and will not rot or mold when wet, but it should be dried properly after heavy rain.
Can I use this for leading a horse to the field?
While it is technically possible, a standard lead rope is recommended for leading to avoid the excess length of the lunge rein getting caught underfoot.
Is the brass hook heavy?
The brass hook is designed to be substantial enough to withstand pulling forces, though it remains balanced relative to the weight of the webbing.
Does the red color fade?
Like most synthetic fabrics, prolonged exposure to harsh UV rays may cause slight fading over many seasons of use.
What is the best way to coil the 24-foot length?
Use an 'over-under' coiling technique to prevent the webbing from twisting and to ensure it unravels without knots during your next session.
Troubleshooting
The brass trigger hook is sticking.
Clear any dirt or sand from the spring mechanism and apply a light food-grade lubricant or mineral oil.
The webbing is becoming stiff.
Soak the rein in lukewarm water with a small amount of fabric softener for 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and air dry.
Pros and Cons

- Must be washed by hand to preserve webbing softness
Setup, Compatibility & Care
To begin using your Mackey EquiSential Padded Lunge Rein, simply inspect the brass trigger hook for any debris before clipping it to your lunge cavesson or bit. Ensure the swivel rotates freely before leading the horse to the arena.
Compatibility:
- Works with all standard lunge cavessons
- Compatible with both bit attachments and headcollars
Care Instructions:
- Rinse after use if the rein becomes covered in mud or sand to prevent grit from damaging the webbing fibers.
- Hand wash using mild soap and cool water.
- Always air dry in a shaded area; do not place on a heater or in direct sunlight for long periods, as excessive heat can degrade the synthetic fibers.
