Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing: Sow seeds directly outdoors in spring (after the last frost) or autumn. Choose a sunny spot with fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds thinly just below the soil surface and water gently.
Germination: Germination typically occurs within 7-14 days under optimal conditions.
Thinning: Once seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them to approximately 30cm (12 inches) apart to allow for proper growth.
Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods, to ensure consistent moisture.
Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogged conditions.
Sunlight: Thrives in full sun.
Compatibility: Suitable for planting in mixed borders, cottage gardens, and as cut flowers. Companion plants could include other hardy annuals or drought-tolerant perennials.
Care: Minimal care is required once established. Deadheading spent blooms can encourage further flowering, though this variety is noted for its long bloom period naturally. As a hardy annual, it will complete its life cycle within a year.
