Product Information

Full details

The Eco Solutions Home Strip Paint & Varnish Remover (1L) is designed for homeowners and professionals seeking a safer, water-based alternative to traditional paint strippers. Its key win is its ability to effectively remove a wide variety of paint types, including lead and oil-based, from virtually any surface without harsh solvents or fumes. A potential caveat is that while it keeps wet and working for up to 24 hours, allowing for thorough penetration, this might mean a longer overall process compared to faster, more aggressive chemical strippers.

FAQs

Is this product safe to use indoors without ventilation?

Yes, the Eco Solutions Home Strip Paint & Varnish Remover is solvent-free, non-toxic, and does not emit fumes or toxins. This makes it safe for indoor use without the need for special ventilation.

How long does it take for the paint remover to work?

Working time varies depending on the type and number of paint layers. It can be as short as 30 minutes for single, easily removable coats, but for multiple or tougher layers, it can be left on for up to 24 hours as it keeps wet and active.

Do I need to wear special protective equipment when using this product?

While the product is non-irritant and causes no skin burns, it's always recommended to wear gloves to keep your hands clean during application and removal. Eye protection is also advisable to prevent accidental splashes.

Can this product remove lead-based paint?

Yes, it is specifically designed to safely and effectively remove lead-based paints, along with oil-based, solvent-based, fire-resistant, and water-based paints.

Will this paint remover damage the surface I'm working on?

No, the product is suitable for use on 'all kinds of surfaces' (e.g., wood, metal, plaster, masonry, ceramic) without causing damage. It's a gentle yet effective solution compared to harsh chemical strippers.

How do I clean up after using the paint remover?

After scraping off the softened paint, any remaining residue can be easily washed away with clean water and a cloth. Ensure proper disposal of the removed paint and used materials according to your local waste disposal regulations.

Troubleshooting

Paint is not coming off effectively after application.

Ensure a sufficiently thick and even layer of remover was applied. For stubborn or multiple layers, allow a longer dwell time, up to the full 24 hours. You may need to re-apply a fresh layer if the initial coating was too thin or dried out prematurely.

The product appears to be drying out too quickly on the surface.

Apply a thicker layer of the remover to help it stay wet longer. For very warm, dry, or windy conditions, consider covering the treated area with a sheet of plastic (e.g., cling film or polythene) to prevent premature drying and extend the active working time.

A sticky residue remains on the surface after scraping off the paint.

After scraping, wash the surface thoroughly with clean water and a sponge or cloth to remove any remaining residue. For persistent stickiness, a light scrubbing with a non-abrasive pad and water, or a very thin re-application of the remover for a short period followed by washing, may help.

The underlying surface appears damaged after paint removal.

While the product is designed to be surface-safe, damage is often caused by the removal tools. Always use appropriate, non-abrasive scrapers (e.g., plastic or dull metal). Avoid sharp objects or excessive force that could scratch or gouge the substrate.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Enhanced Safety: Water-based formula is non-irritant, causes no skin burns, and produces no fumes or toxins, making it safe for indoor use around children and pets.
Broad Application: Effectively removes a wide range of paint and varnish types, including challenging lead-based and fire-resistant coatings.
Surface Compatibility: Can be used on virtually "all kinds of surfaces" without risk of damage.
Environmentally Friendly: VOC-free and a safer alternative to conventional solvent-based removers.
Efficient Multi-Coat Removal: Keeps working for up to 24 hours, simplifying the removal of multiple paint layers in one application.

Cons

Patience Required: The extended working time (up to 24 hours) may require more patience for the product to fully penetrate and break down multiple layers compared to very fast-acting solvent strippers.
Application Thickness: Requires a sufficiently thick layer to remain active for the full duration, which might use more product for large areas.
Info needed: May require multiple applications for extremely thick or exceptionally stubborn coatings.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup

Preparation: Ensure the surface to be stripped is clean and dry. Protect surrounding areas that you do not wish to strip with appropriate masking tape or sheeting.
Application: Apply a generous, even layer of the remover to the surface using a brush or roller. The layer should be thick enough to remain wet and active for the desired working time. Avoid spreading too thinly.
Dwell Time: Allow the product to work. For most paints and varnishes, this can range from 30 minutes to several hours. For multiple or tougher layers, it can be left for up to 24 hours. The product will remain wet during this period.
Testing: Periodically check a small, inconspicuous area with a scraper to see if the paint has softened sufficiently and is ready for removal.
Removal: Once the paint has softened and lifted, gently scrape it off using a suitable tool (e.g., a plastic scraper or a dull metal scraper). Avoid overly aggressive tools that might damage the underlying surface.
Clean-up: Any remaining residue can be easily washed off with water and a sponge or cloth.

Compatibility

Surfaces: Suitable for use on "all kinds of surfaces" including wood, metal, plaster, concrete, masonry, and ceramic.
Coatings: Effectively removes lead-based, oil-based, solvent-based, fire-resistant, and water-based paints, as well as rust preventive coatings, varnishes, and waxes.

Care

Storage: Store the container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the lid is tightly closed when not in use to prevent drying.
Disposal: Dispose of removed paint/varnish waste and used product according to local waste disposal regulations. Although the product itself is non-toxic, the stripped material may contain hazardous substances depending on its original composition.
