FAQs

What wire gauge are these connectors for?

These connectors are designed for wire sizes ranging from 24 AWG to 22 AWG.

What is the best tool to use for shrinking the tubing?

A heat gun is the recommended tool for consistent and controlled shrinking. A lighter can be used with caution, but increases the risk of scorching.

Do I need to use solder separately?

No, each connector includes a pre-inserted solder ring. The heat application melts this solder to create the connection.

Are these connectors waterproof?

The heat shrink tubing provides a good seal against moisture. For full submersion or harsh environments, additional sealing methods might be advisable.

How many connectors are in a pack?

Each pack contains 25 heat shrink butt connector terminals.

What color are the connectors?

These specific connectors are white.

Can these be used for automotive applications?

Yes, they are suitable for many automotive wiring repairs and modifications due to their insulated and vibration-resistant properties.

Troubleshooting

Solder not melting or flowing

Ensure sufficient heat is applied evenly. Use a heat gun for more consistent heat. Check that the wire ends are making good contact with the solder ring.

Tubing not shrinking properly

Increase the heat temperature slightly or hold the heat source closer, ensuring not to scorch the tubing. Make sure the wires are inserted correctly and the tubing is not obstructed.

Connection feels loose or weak

The wire gauge may be too small for the connector, or the solder did not fully bond. Re-apply heat, ensuring wires are firmly seated and the solder has flowed completely.

Tubing discolored or burnt

Heat was applied too intensely or for too long. Reduce heat temperature and duration. Ensure even heating to avoid hot spots.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Provides a clean, insulated, and professional-looking wire connection.
  • Integrated solder ring simplifies the connection process.
  • Heat shrink tubing offers strain relief and environmental protection.
  • Suitable for a range of automotive, marine, and electronic projects.
  • Efficient and quick to install with a heat gun or lighter.

Cons

  • Limited to specific wire gauges (24-22 AWG); not suitable for thicker wires.
  • Requires a heat source (heat gun recommended) for proper installation.
  • Transparent tubing may become discolored with excessive heat.
  • Not ideal for applications requiring extreme flexibility after connection.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Prepare Wires: Strip approximately 1/4 inch of insulation from the ends of the two wires you intend to connect.
  2. Insert Wires: Insert one stripped wire end into each opening of the white butt connector.
  3. Position Solder: Ensure the stripped wire ends meet at the center, where the solder ring is located.
  4. Apply Heat: Using a heat gun on a low to medium setting, or a lighter with caution, apply heat evenly around the connector. Start from the outside edges and move towards the center.
  5. Confirm Connection: Continue heating until the tubing shrinks tightly around the wires and the solder ring melts, flowing to create a connection. Allow the connection to cool completely before stressing it.

Compatibility:

  • Wire Gauge: Designed for wires within the 24 to 22 AWG range.
  • Environment: Suitable for dry to moderately moist environments. For highly corrosive or submerged conditions, additional sealing may be required.

Care:

  • Store connectors in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to maintain the integrity of the tubing and solder.
  • Avoid excessive handling of the connector before heat application to prevent premature solder melting.
