Product Information

Full details

The Savage Gear Pro Folding Landing Net - XL is designed for serious anglers who prioritize fish safety and portability without compromising on strength. Its primary benefit is the large, fish-friendly rubber mesh that makes handling trophy-sized catches safer and easier. However, users should note that because this is the XL model, its 70x85cm frame requires significant clearance space for deployment during shore or boat fishing.

FAQs

What are the dimensions of the XL net opening?

The net frame measures 70x85cm, providing an extra-large landing area.

Is this net safe for Catch and Release?

Yes, the rubber mesh is specifically designed to be fish-friendly, reducing slime coat and scale damage.

Does the handle extend?

No, this version features a reliable fixed handle for increased strength and rigidity.

Can I use this for saltwater fishing?

Yes, but ensure you rinse the net thoroughly with fresh water after each session to protect the metal components.

Is the net easy to store?

Yes, it features a folding mechanism that allows the frame to collapse, making it much easier to transport than non-folding models.

Does the rubber mesh absorb water?

No, the rubber material is non-absorbent, which prevents the net from getting heavy when wet and keeps it odor-free.

Troubleshooting

Hinge feels stiff or difficult to open

Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the hinge mechanism and work it back and forth to clear debris.

Net frame lock does not snap into place securely

Check for obstructions or grit inside the locking mechanism; clean with water and ensure the spring is clear of debris.

Rubber mesh appears slightly stretched

Ensure the net is hung vertically when stored so that weight is evenly distributed rather than concentrated on one side of the frame.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Large landing area suitable for trophy fish
Rubberized mesh protects fish health and minimizes hook snags
Strong, reliable frame construction
Collapsible design for better transport efficiency

Cons

Large 70x85cm frame requires space to open fully
Fixed handle length may limit reach compared to telescopic options
Bulkier than standard or medium-sized nets

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup is straightforward: simply unlock the hinge mechanism to swing the frame into its locked, open position. Ensure the locking collar is fully engaged before use. Compatibility is excellent for most boat fishing setups and bank fishing where reach is not the primary constraint. For care, always rinse the rubber mesh with fresh water after fishing in saltwater to prevent corrosion on the hinge. Allow the net to air dry fully in a shaded area before folding it for storage to ensure the hinges remain smooth and the mesh stays in good condition.
