Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Unpack all components carefully.
- Assemble the obelisk structure according to the provided instructions (assembly typically involves connecting vertical rods and any cross-bracing).
- Identify a suitable location in your garden where you want to place the obelisk. Ensure the ground is relatively level.
- Push the integrated spikes firmly into the soil to secure the base of the obelisk. For very soft ground, consider gently hammering the spikes or digging a small trench for them.
Compatibility:
This obelisk is compatible with most climbing plants. Its 14-inch (356mm) width at the base is suitable for plants that grow upwards, such as roses, clematis, honeysuckle, jasmine, beans, and peas. It can be used directly in garden soil or placed in large, deep planters. Ensure the planter is heavy and stable enough to support the obelisk and climbing plant.
Care:
- Cleaning: Wipe down the obelisk with a damp cloth periodically to remove dirt or debris. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could damage the paint finish.
- Maintenance: The polyester paint finish is designed for outdoor durability. Inspect the obelisk annually for any signs of wear or rust, especially at joints or points of contact with the soil. Touch-up paint can be used if minor imperfections appear.
- Winter Storage: While designed for outdoor use, in regions with harsh winters or prolonged damp conditions, consider cleaning and drying the obelisk thoroughly before storing it in a dry place to prolong its lifespan. However, it is built to withstand outdoor conditions year-round.
