Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup:
Before first use, it's crucial to season your cast iron wok. Wash it with hot, soapy water and a stiff brush to remove any protective coating. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Apply a thin layer of cooking oil (like vegetable or canola oil) all over the wok, inside and out. Place it in a preheated oven (around 400°F or 200°C) upside down for one hour. Let it cool completely. Repeat this seasoning process 2-3 times for best results.
Compatibility:
This wok features a flat base, making it compatible with:
- Gas stovetops
- Induction stovetops
- Electric coil stovetops
- Ceramic glass stovetops
- Ovens
Care and Maintenance:
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the wok while it's still warm. Use hot water and a stiff brush or scraper. Avoid using harsh detergents or metal scouring pads, as they can strip the seasoning. For stubborn bits, boil some water in the wok for a few minutes.
- Drying: Crucially, dry the wok immediately and thoroughly after washing. You can place it on a low heat burner for a few minutes to ensure all moisture evaporates.
- Oiling: Apply a very thin layer of cooking oil to the interior surface after drying to protect it from rust.
- Storage: Store the wok in a dry place. If stacking, place a paper towel between the wok and other cookware to absorb any residual moisture and prevent scratching.
