Setup, Compatibility & Care
Proper installation, compatibility checks, and minimal care are vital for the optimal performance and longevity of your Catnic ANG Lintel.
Setup Instructions
- Preparation: Ensure the masonry surfaces where the lintel will rest are level and clean.
- Positioning: Carefully lift and position the lintel above the opening, ensuring it is correctly oriented for an angled single-leaf external masonry wall. The lintel typically has an orientation specific to its design; refer to any manufacturer markings.
- End Bearings: Crucially, ensure a minimum of 150mm end bearing at each end of the lintel onto solid masonry. This is paramount for achieving the stated 15kN load capacity. If the bearing is less than 150mm, the lintel's load-carrying ability will be compromised.
- Mortar Bed: Lay a full bed of mortar on the supporting masonry before placing the lintel to ensure even load distribution and secure seating.
- Leveling: Check that the lintel is perfectly level (unless specific design requires a slight fall for drainage, which is generally not the case for structural lintels) before the mortar sets.
- Curing: Allow the mortar to cure fully before applying significant loads or continuing with the above masonry work. Follow standard masonry curing times.
Compatibility
- Wall Type: Designed exclusively for single-leaf external masonry walls with angled openings.
- Brickwork: Compatible with 100-102mm brickwork. Using it with different brickwork widths may require additional packing or custom solutions, potentially affecting performance.
- Spans: This ANG2400 model is for spans up to 2400mm. Always select a lintel that provides at least 150mm bearing length beyond the opening on each side.
Care & Maintenance
The Catnic ANG Lintel ANG2400 features integral corrosion protection through its galvanised finish, meaning it requires minimal ongoing maintenance once installed correctly.
- During Installation: Avoid damaging the galvanised coating. Any deep scratches or abrasions should be touched up with a suitable galvanised repair paint to prevent localized corrosion.
- Post-Installation: No routine maintenance is typically required. Periodically inspect exposed areas (if any) for signs of damage or unusual wear, although the lintel is largely concealed within the masonry.
- Cleaning: If exposed, clean any dirt or debris with mild soap and water, avoiding abrasive cleaners that could harm the finish.
