FAQs
What types of fabric can I dye with Dylon Hand Dye?
Dylon Hand Dye is suitable for most natural fabrics including cotton, linen, viscose, wool, and silk. Always check the care label of your item for fabric composition.
Can I use this dye on synthetic materials like polyester or nylon?
No, Dylon Hand Dye is not suitable for pure polyester, acrylic, nylon, or fabrics that have special finishes (e.g., waterproof, dry-clean only).
Do I need to add anything else to the dye apart from water?
Yes, you will need to add 250g of ordinary salt to the dye bath for the dye to work effectively. This is not included in the pack.
How much fabric can one pack of Dylon Hand Dye color?
One 50g pack of Dylon Hand Dye can color up to 250g of dry fabric to a full, rich shade. For larger amounts of fabric, the color will be lighter.
How long does the dyeing process take?
After submerging the fabric, you need to stir continuously for the first 15 minutes, then regularly for another 45 minutes, for a total submersion time of 1 hour.
What temperature should the water be for dyeing?
For best results, the water in your dye bath should be warm, approximately 40 degrees C (104 degrees F).
Can I mix this dye with other colors?
Yes, you can mix colors. Standard color mixing rules apply; for example, if you dye a red fabric with this Paradise Blue, the result will likely be a shade of purple.
Troubleshooting
Color is too light or uneven.
Ensure you used the correct amount of salt (250g) and that the water temperature was around 40 degrees C. Make sure the fabric weight did not exceed 250g for full shade, or adjust expectations for a lighter result. Stir the fabric continuously for the first 15 minutes and regularly thereafter to ensure even dye absorption.
Dye did not take to the fabric.
Verify that the fabric is made of natural fibers (cotton, linen, viscose, wool, silk). This dye is not effective on synthetic materials like pure polyester, acrylic, or nylon, or on fabrics with special finishes.
Stains on sink or hands.
Always use rubber gloves during the process. For sink stains, clean immediately with a strong household cleaner. Non-porous surfaces are easier to clean. Work in a stainless steel sink or a designated dyeing bucket.
Allergic reaction or irritation.
Stop use immediately if irritation occurs. Always wear rubber gloves to avoid direct skin contact. Consult a medical professional if symptoms persist. Keep out of reach of children.

Setup Instructions
Prepare Fabric: Weigh your dry fabric to ensure it's within the 250g limit for full shade, or more for a lighter shade. Wash the fabric thoroughly and leave it damp.
