FAQs

What type of lens does the Fujifilm X100VI have?

It features a fixed Fujinon 23mm F2.0 lens, which provides a 35mm equivalent focal length on a full-frame camera. It is not interchangeable.

Can the X100VI record video?

Yes, it can record high-resolution video up to 6.2K at 30 frames per second (30P) with 10-bit 4:2:2 color internally, offering excellent quality for professional use.

Does it have image stabilization?

Yes, the X100VI is equipped with 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) providing up to 6 stops of shake compensation, significantly improving sharpness in challenging conditions.

What are Film Simulations?

Film Simulations are unique Fujifilm color science profiles built into the camera that mimic the look and feel of classic Fujifilm film stocks, such as Velvia, Provia, Astia, Classic Chrome, and ACROS, allowing for distinct creative styles directly from the camera.

What kind of memory card should I use?

The camera uses SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards. For optimal performance, especially when recording 6.2K video, a fast UHS-II (V90 rated) card is recommended.

Does the screen tilt?

Yes, the Fujifilm X100VI features a 3-inch tilting touchscreen LCD monitor, which allows for easier composition from high or low angles.

Is the camera weather-sealed?

The X100VI body has some degree of weather resistance. For full dust and weather resistance, an optional AR-X100 adapter ring and a compatible protection filter must be attached to the lens.

Troubleshooting

Camera won't turn on.

Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted. Try re-inserting the battery or using a spare fully charged battery. If using an external power source, verify the cable and adapter are functioning.

Autofocus is slow or inaccurate.

Ensure there is sufficient light on your subject. Check your AF mode (e.g., switch from Multi to Single Point AF for precise focusing). Clean the lens front element, as smudges can affect AF performance. Consider using the focus assist light in very dark conditions.

Images appear blurry or soft.

Check your shutter speed; it might be too slow for handheld shooting. Ensure In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) is active. In very low light, increase ISO, use a tripod, or brace the camera. Ensure the lens is clean and the focus is correctly acquired.

Battery drains too quickly.

Reduce screen brightness and set the LCD/EVF power save mode to 'Economy'. Decrease the 'Auto Power Off' time. Limit continuous video recording or extensive use of the EVF. Carry spare batteries for extended shooting sessions.

Video recording stops unexpectedly.

This can occur if your memory card speed is insufficient for the selected video quality (e.g., 6.2K). Use a UHS-II V90 rated SD card for optimal performance. Also, check for available space on the card or if the camera is overheating; allow it to cool down if necessary.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Exceptional Image Quality: The 40.2MP sensor paired with the sharp 23mm F2.0 lens produces stunningly detailed and vibrant images.
Advanced Image Stabilization: 6-stop IBIS is a significant addition, making handheld shooting easier and more consistent in challenging conditions.
High-Resolution Video: 6.2K/30P internal video capabilities cater to professional and enthusiast videographers.
Iconic Design and Portability: Retains the beloved retro design, build quality, and compact form factor that makes it a joy to carry and use.
Versatile Creative Tools: 20 Film Simulations and the Hybrid Viewfinder offer extensive creative control and a unique shooting experience.
Improved Autofocus: Enhanced AF system with subject detection provides reliable and quick focusing performance.

Cons

Fixed Focal Length Lens: The 23mm F2.0 lens, while excellent, offers no zoom, which may limit versatility for some shooting situations requiring different perspectives.
Battery Life: While improved, intensive use of video or the EVF can still lead to quicker battery drain, necessitating spare batteries for long shoots.
Limited Weather Sealing: While robust, complete weather sealing requires an optional adapter ring and protector filter for the lens, which is an additional purchase.
Learning Curve for New Users: The manual, dial-based controls, while intuitive for experienced photographers, may require some adjustment for those new to Fujifilm or this style of camera.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Initial Setup

Charge the Battery: Before first use, fully charge the supplied NP-W126S battery using the included USB cable and a USB power adapter. A full charge ensures maximum shooting time.
Insert Memory Card: Open the battery/card cover and insert a compatible SD, SDHC, or SDXC memory card (UHS-I or UHS-II recommended for 6.2K video) with the metal contacts facing the correct way. Close the cover securely.
Attach Strap: Securely attach the camera strap to the camera's strap lugs for safe carrying.
Initial Settings: Turn on the camera. Follow the on-screen prompts to set the date, time, and language. You may also want to set your preferred film simulation, image quality, and AF mode.

Compatibility

Memory Cards: Compatible with standard SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards. For high-bitrate video recording (e.g., 6.2K), a fast UHS-II card is strongly recommended to avoid dropped frames.
Batteries: Uses Fujifilm NP-W126S rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Always use genuine Fujifilm batteries for optimal performance and safety.
Lenses: The Fujifilm X100VI features a fixed 23mm F2.0 lens and is not designed for interchangeable lenses. Tele-conversion and wide-conversion lens attachments (sold separately) are available to alter the focal length if desired.
Accessories: Compatible with various Fujifilm accessories such as external flash units, hand grips, and leather cases. Ensure accessories are X-series compatible.

Product Care

Lens Care: Keep the lens clean using a soft lens brush or microfiber cloth. For smudges, use a dedicated lens cleaning solution applied to a cloth, not directly to the lens. Protect the lens with the included lens cap or an optional protective filter.
Screen Protection: The 3" tilting LCD monitor is durable, but consider adding a screen protector to prevent scratches, especially if you frequently use the tilting mechanism.
Cleaning the Camera Body: Wipe the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, lightly dampen the cloth with water. Avoid harsh chemicals.
Storage: When not in use, store the camera in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, dust, and humidity. It's advisable to remove the battery if storing for extended periods.
Weather Resistance: While the X100VI has some level of weather resistance, for full protection against dust and moisture, especially in adverse conditions, an optional filter ring (e.g., Fujifilm AR-X100) and a protector filter must be attached to the lens. Without these, only the body has limited weather sealing.
