This Schneider Electric Acti9 iCV40 RCBO (A9DC3606) is designed for electricians and homeowners seeking robust protection for low-voltage electrical networks. Its key benefit is the combined safeguarding against both ground fault and overcurrent hazards, with a VisiTrip indicator for quick fault identification. A potential consideration is its 6 kA breaking capacity, which may not be sufficient for very high fault current environments.

An RCD (Residual Current Device) only detects earth leakage faults. An RCBO (Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent protection) combines the functions of an RCD and an MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker), providing protection against both earth leakage and overcurrent/short circuits in a single device.
The 30mA (milliampere) trip sensitivity indicates that the RCBO will disconnect the circuit if it detects an earth leakage current of 30mA or more. This level is considered safe for protecting individuals from electric shock.
This specific model (A9DC3606) has a 6 kA breaking capacity and a 6A rating, making it more suitable for protecting individual circuits or smaller distribution boards rather than the main incoming supply to a large building, which typically requires a higher breaking capacity.
First, identify and rectify the cause of the trip (e.g., remove the overload or fault). Then, simply push the switch lever back to the ON position. If the fault persists, the RCBO will trip again.
The VisiTrip indicator is a visual flag that appears when the RCBO has tripped due to an earth leakage or overcurrent fault. It helps to quickly identify which device has tripped in a crowded distribution board.
As long as the consumer unit has a standard 35mm DIN rail and sufficient space, this RCBO should be compatible. However, always verify compliance with local electrical regulations and consult a qualified electrician if unsure.
Check for overloaded circuits, excessive leakage current from connected appliances, or incorrect wiring. Test the RCBO with the test button; if it doesn't trip, replace the unit. Consult a qualified electrician.
The earth leakage protection mechanism may be faulty. Replace the RCBO immediately. Do not use the circuit until the RCBO is replaced.
If the RCBO has tripped due to an overcurrent or earth leakage fault, the VisiTrip indicator should be visible. If it's not, ensure the breaker has indeed tripped. If it has tripped and the indicator is not visible, the indicator mechanism might be faulty, but the primary protection function should still be operational.
Ensure the DIN rail is standard 35mm width and properly secured. Check that the RCBO's mounting clip is not damaged.
