Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing: Sow seeds indoors from January to April in pots or trays of moist seed compost, 1.5cm deep. Harden off plants before planting outdoors in April or May after the risk of frost has passed. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors in well-prepared soil from March to May.
Location: Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. Sweet peas thrive in full sun.
Support: Provide sturdy support such as canes, netting, or a trellis. Gently tie stems to the support as they grow.
Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry spells. Deep watering encourages stronger root growth.
Feeding: Feed with a high-potash fertilizer once the first flowers appear to promote abundant blooming.
Deadheading: Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming and prevent the plant from setting seed prematurely.
