FAQs

Is this paint waterproof once dry?

It is water-resistant and permanent, but it is not completely waterproof. For projects exposed to moisture, apply a clear acrylic varnish.

Can I use this on fabric?

While it can be used on fabric, it will be stiff once dry. For textiles, it is best to mix it with a fabric medium.

Is it safe for children?

Yes, it is non-toxic, though adult supervision is recommended for younger children.

How long does it take to dry?

Drying time depends on humidity and thickness, but it is typically dry to the touch within 15 to 30 minutes.

Can I mix this with other paint brands?

Yes, Americana acrylics are generally compatible with other high-quality, water-based acrylic paints.

Troubleshooting

Paint is clumping or drying too thick

Add a tiny amount of water or acrylic flow medium to thin the consistency while maintaining adhesion.

Paint is not adhering to a specific surface

Ensure the surface is properly primed or sanded. If the surface is plastic or slick metal, use a specialized primer first.

Streaking during application

Use a softer, synthetic bristle brush and apply thin layers rather than one heavy, thick coat.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Excellent opacity and coverage
Easy to clean with just soap and water
Non-toxic formula suitable for all ages
Extremely versatile across many materials
Easy to blend and customize colors

Cons

Requires varnish for maximum outdoor durability
Not intended for high-heat surfaces
Susceptible to freezing during transport or storage

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To achieve the best results, ensure the target surface is clean, dry, and free of dust or oils before application. For porous surfaces like raw wood, a light sanding beforehand can improve adhesion.

Application: Use synthetic brushes for the smoothest finish. If the paint feels too thick, you can thin it slightly with a small amount of water or an acrylic medium.
Cleanup: Wash brushes and tools immediately after use with warm water and mild dish soap. Do not allow the paint to dry on your tools.
Storage: Always store in a cool, dry place with the cap tightly sealed to prevent the acrylic polymers from drying out. Keep away from extreme heat and freezing temperatures to maintain the integrity of the emulsion.
