Setup, Compatibility & Care
Planting:
Your Lily's Rose is supplied as a freshly potted, established plant in a 4-litre pot, ready for immediate planting. Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice the width of the pot and to the same depth. Gently remove the plant from its pot, loosen the roots slightly if pot-bound, and place it in the hole. Backfill with soil, firm gently, and water thoroughly.
Support:
As a climbing rose, it will require support such as a trellis, fence, wall, or obelisk to grow upwards. Gently tie the main stems to the support as they grow.
Watering:
Water regularly, especially during dry periods and the first year after planting, to establish a strong root system. Ensure the soil is moist but not waterlogged.
Feeding:
Feed with a balanced rose fertilizer in spring and again in early summer for optimal flowering. Mulching around the base will help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Pruning:
Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and to shape the plant. Deadhead spent flowers during the growing season to encourage further blooms.
Seasonal Consideration:
Note that roses naturally begin to lose their leaves from October as they prepare for winter. New leaves and buds will emerge in spring. This is a normal part of the plant's cycle.
