Product Information

Full details

This Pifco Telephone Extension Lead is designed for users needing to extend the reach of their standard BT telephone connection. Its primary benefit is providing an extra 15 metres of cable length, allowing for greater flexibility in phone placement. A key consideration is its specific compatibility with BT plugs and sockets, and 431A connectors, meaning it may not be suitable for non-standard phone systems.

Extended Product Information

FAQs

What is the exact length of this telephone extension lead?

This Pifco telephone extension lead is 15 metres long.

What type of connectors does this lead use?

It uses RJ11 connectors on one end for telephone equipment and BT plugs/sockets on the other end for the wall connection.

Can I use this lead with my Sky or Virgin Media phone line?

This lead is designed for standard UK BT telephone lines. It may not be compatible with proprietary connectors used by other service providers like Sky or Virgin Media.

Is this lead suitable for broadband modems?

Yes, if your broadband modem uses a standard RJ11 port and connects to a BT phone line, this lead can be used to extend its connection.

How should I clean the cable?

You can gently wipe the cable with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or immersing it in water.

What is the warranty period for this product?

Please refer to the product packaging or Pifco's official website for specific warranty information, as this is not provided in the product description.

Can I connect multiple extension leads together?

While technically possible, connecting multiple extension leads can lead to signal degradation and is generally not recommended for optimal performance. It's best to use a single lead of the required length.

Troubleshooting

No dial tone or no connection

Ensure both ends of the cable are securely plugged in. Check that the lead is connected to a master BT socket and not an extension socket. Test your telephone without the extension lead to rule out issues with the phone itself.

Intermittent connection or poor call quality

Check for any damage to the cable or connectors. Ensure the cable is not routed near sources of electrical interference (e.g., power cables, fluorescent lights). Try a different master socket if available.

Connector won't fit

Verify that you are using a standard BT master socket and that your telephone equipment has a compatible RJ11 port. This lead is designed for specific UK standards (BT and 431A).

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Extends telephone reach significantly with a 15m cable.
  • Uses standard RJ11 connectors for broad compatibility with phone devices.
  • Directly connects to UK BT master wall sockets.
  • Simple plug-and-play setup.
  • Offers a straightforward solution for phone placement challenges.

Cons

  • Specific compatibility with BT plugs and 431A connectors may limit use with non-UK or older systems.
  • The white colour, while neutral, might show dirt more easily than darker cables.
  • A long cable can potentially lead to signal degradation over very long distances if not of high quality (though this is unlikely for typical home use).
  • Only provides extension; does not add new functionality.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Ensure both the wall socket and your telephone equipment have the correct BT socket and RJ11 port, respectively.
  2. Unplug your existing telephone cable from the wall socket and your telephone equipment.
  3. Connect one end of the Pifco extension lead (the BT plug) into the master BT wall socket.
  4. Connect the other end of the extension lead (the RJ11 connector) into the telephone port on your telephone equipment.
  5. Reconnect your telephone equipment to power if necessary.

Compatibility:

  • This lead is designed for standard UK BT telephone lines.
  • It features RJ11 connectors, common on most standard telephones, modems, and fax machines.
  • It is compatible with 431A connectors.
  • *Note:* This lead is not designed for Sky/Virgin Media or other non-BT standard phone line connectors.

Care:

  • Avoid kinking or sharply bending the cable, as this can damage the internal wires.
  • Keep the connectors clean and free from dust or debris.
  • Protect the cable from excessive heat or moisture.
  • To clean, gently wipe the cable with a slightly damp cloth. Do not use harsh cleaning agents.
