Setup, Compatibility & Care
Handling:
Due to the delicate beadwork and embroidery, this fabric requires careful handling. Avoid excessive pulling or snagging. It is recommended to pre-wash this fabric by hand in cool water with a mild detergent if necessary, though dry cleaning is often preferred for beaded and embroidered items to maintain their integrity. Always test a small swatch first.
Cutting:
Use a sharp pair of fabric shears or a rotary cutter. Lay the fabric flat on a cutting mat and cut carefully around the embellishments where possible to avoid damaging them. Consider using a pattern that minimizes intricate seams to preserve the beadwork.
Sewing:
Use a fine, sharp needle (e.g., size 70/10 or 80/12 microtex needle) suitable for delicate fabrics. Sew with a shorter stitch length. Hand-basting is recommended for marking and holding seams in place. Avoid excessive friction on the embellishments. Consider hand-sewing some seams or areas with dense beadwork for a more secure finish. Use a straight stitch on your sewing machine; avoid zigzag stitches over embellishments.
Care:
Spot clean or hand wash in cold water with a very mild detergent. Do not wring or twist. Lay flat on a towel to absorb excess water, then roll gently in another dry towel. Reshape and lay flat or hang to dry away from direct sunlight or heat. Dry cleaning by a reputable cleaner experienced with beaded garments is the safest option for preserving the fabric's quality and embellishments. Ironing should be avoided. If absolutely necessary, iron on the reverse side at the lowest heat setting with a pressing cloth, being extremely careful not to crush the beads or sequins.
