Product Information

Full details

The Alessi Piana Folding Chair, designed by architect David Chipperfield, is an ideal solution for urban dwellers and design enthusiasts who require flexible seating without sacrificing aesthetic appeal. This chair provides the key benefit of a high-end, minimalist design that folds completely flat, making it perfect for small apartments or spaces that require quick layout changes. While it offers unmatched portability and durability, potential buyers should note that its rigid, non-upholstered polypropylene construction is designed for deliberate form over plush comfort, which may feel firm during extended sitting sessions.

Troubleshooting

Ensure the single-axis pivot points are free of debris; use a dry cloth to clear dust from the hinges.

Chair wobbles on uneven floors

Check if the chair is fully clicked into the locked position; if it persists, ensure the floor surface is level.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Folds completely flat for efficient storage in small closets or behind furniture
  • Extremely durable glass-fibre reinforced material is weather-resistant
  • Clean, fastener-free design offers a sophisticated visual appeal
  • Lightweight build makes it easy to transport between rooms or outdoors
  • 100% recyclable materials support sustainable living choices

Cons

  • Polypropylene seat and back are firm and lack cushioning for long-term sitting
  • The folding mechanism requires careful handling to avoid pinching fingers
  • Higher price point compared to standard utilitarian folding chairs

Setup, Compatibility & Care

  • Setup: No assembly is required. The chair arrives ready to use; simply hold the frame and apply light pressure to the seat to lock it into the open position.
  • Compatibility: The neutral design works well with modern dining tables, contemporary desks, or as an accent piece in hallways.
  • Care: Maintain the finish by wiping the chair with a damp, soft cloth using mild soap. Avoid using abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals that could scratch the polypropylene finish. While outdoor-friendly, storing the chair indoors during extreme winter conditions will extend the life of the material.
