The Stihl MS 162 Chainsaw (30 cm) is designed for users tackling various cutting tasks, from landscaping to firewood preparation. Its key benefit is reliable performance combined with user-friendly operation. A potential caveat to consider is that it is best suited for moderate rather than heavy-duty professional use, though its robust construction ensures durability for home and frequent use. This chainsaw features a powerful engine, a 30 cm bar for versatile cutting, and is engineered for ease of use and maintenance, offering a comfortable and effective experience.

The Stihl MS 162 requires a mixture of regular unleaded gasoline and Stihl 2-stroke engine oil at a 50:1 ratio. Always use fresh fuel.
Regularly sharpen the chain using a Stihl file guide or appropriate sharpening tool. Check and adjust chain tension before each use, ensuring it is snug but still able to be pulled around the bar by hand. Clean debris from the chain and bar.
The MS 162 is designed for reliable performance in home and moderate use. For continuous, heavy-duty professional logging operations, a more powerful model from the Stihl range might be more suitable.
The air filter should be cleaned regularly, ideally after every few uses. In very dusty conditions, it's recommended to clean it more frequently to maintain engine efficiency.
The Stihl MS 162 comes standard with a 30 cm (approximately 12-inch) guide bar.
With the engine off and cool, gently pull the chain downwards away from the bar. It should spring back and remain snug against the bar's underside. You should be able to rotate it by hand. Adjust the tension screw as needed.
Check fuel level and ensure correct fuel/oil mixture. Verify the spark plug is clean and properly connected. Check the air filter for blockages.
Ensure the chain is sharp and properly tensioned. Clean the oiler hole and check the chain oil level. Inspect the air filter for dirt.
Re-tension the chain. Ensure the guide bar and chain are not excessively worn. Check that the chain is installed correctly.
Clean or replace the air filter. Check the fuel mixture. Ensure the spark plug is in good condition. Verify the carburetor is correctly adjusted (if applicable and within user service limits).
