Product Information

Full details

This d-c-fix Marble Black Self-Adhesive Vinyl Wrap is for DIY enthusiasts, renters, and homeowners looking to quickly and affordably update surfaces like worktops, kitchen doors, furniture, and even bathroom areas. Its key benefit is providing an authentic marble look with easy application and repositionability, saving significant cost and effort compared to real marble. A notable caveat is its heat resistance limit of 70°C, meaning it's not suitable for areas directly exposed to high heat like hob splashbacks.

FAQs

Can this vinyl be used on textured surfaces?

While it works best on smooth surfaces, it may adhere to lightly textured surfaces. Heavily textured or porous surfaces are not recommended as adhesion may be poor.

How do I clean the vinyl wrap?

Clean gently with a soft cloth and warm, soapy water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which can damage the finish.

Is the vinyl wrap waterproof?

The vinyl itself is water-resistant and suitable for kitchens and bathrooms. For added protection, especially around sinks or wet areas, you can seal the edges with a suitable sealant.

Can I put hot pans directly on the vinyl?

No, the vinyl is heat-resistant up to 70°C. It can withstand heat from cups and plates, but direct contact with hot pans can cause damage or melting.

How easy is it to remove?

The vinyl is designed to be removable. Use a hairdryer to warm the vinyl, which softens the adhesive, then peel it back slowly and carefully. Any residue can usually be cleaned with warm, soapy water.

What is the size of the roll?

This specific roll measures 67.5 cm in width and 5 meters in length.

Can I use this as a splashback behind my hob?

Due to the heat limitation of 70°C, it is not recommended for use as a splashback directly behind a hob, as this area can experience much higher temperatures.

Troubleshooting

Air bubbles appear during application

Gently lift the vinyl from the affected area and reapply, smoothing out the air. For small bubbles, you can carefully prick them with a fine needle and smooth down.

Vinyl won't stick smoothly to corners or edges

Use a hairdryer on a low to medium heat setting to gently warm the vinyl. This makes it more pliable and easier to stretch and mold around corners. Apply firm pressure once in place.

Difficulty repositioning the vinyl

Ensure you are lifting carefully and slowly. The low-tack adhesive allows repositioning, but pulling too quickly can cause stretching or tearing. If residue remains, warm slightly with a hairdryer.

Surface feels sticky after removal

Warm the remaining residue gently with a hairdryer and then wipe away with a cloth dampened in warm, soapy water. Avoid harsh solvents.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Provides a high-quality, realistic marble aesthetic.
  • Easy to apply and reposition, reducing application errors.
  • Versatile for various surfaces including furniture, countertops, and doors.
  • Removable without significant damage, ideal for renters.
  • Durable and resistant to fading and shrinkage.
  • Cost-effective way to refresh spaces.

Cons

  • Limited heat resistance (70°C max) makes it unsuitable for direct high-heat applications.
  • Requires careful application to avoid bubbles and creases.
  • May not adhere well to heavily textured or porous surfaces.
  • Removal, while possible, can sometimes leave minor residue.
  • Not suitable as a direct splashback behind a hob due to heat limitations.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and smooth. Remove any dust, grease, or old adhesive.
  2. Cut the vinyl to the desired size, leaving a small overlap if needed.
  3. Peel back a small section of the backing paper.
  4. Carefully position the vinyl and begin to stick, smoothing out air bubbles as you go with a soft cloth or squeegee.
  5. Continue peeling the backing paper gradually while smoothing the vinyl.
  6. For curves or edges, gently warm the vinyl with a hairdryer to increase pliability before applying pressure.
  7. Trim any excess with a sharp craft knife.

Compatibility:

  • Best suited for smooth, non-porous surfaces such as laminate, metal, painted wood, glass, and plastic.
  • Not recommended for rough, textured, or excessively damp surfaces.
  • Avoid use directly behind gas or electric hobs due to heat limitations.

Care:

  • Wipe clean using a soft cloth dampened with mild soapy water.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaning products or tools, as they can scratch the surface.
  • For stubborn marks, use standard household cleaning products gently.
  • The vinyl is heat-resistant up to 70°C.
