The African Wisteria Tree, a native of subtropical South Africa, is a small to medium-sized ornamental tree. It has blue-purple, fragrant butterfly flowers that bloom from spring to early summer and is suitable for both pot cultivation and bonsai. It is protected in its natural habitat. Seeds can be planted year-round indoors. It needs a bright, warm location, with a temperature between 20°C and 25° Celsius, keeping the soil moist but not wet. Younger plants prefer partial shade, and mature trees need full sun. Regular watering is needed, and the leaves can be sprayed with low-lime water occasionally. During flowering, liquid fertilizer is needed every three weeks. The tree is not frost-hardy and should be kept indoors after leaf fall in autumn, in a bright, dry place at 5° to 10° Celsius. The tree is also known as Bolusanthus africanus.
