Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Plant Ranunculus acris bareroots in late autumn or early spring. Choose a location that receives full sun to partial shade and has consistently moist to wet soil. Ensure the soil is well-drained even in wet conditions to prevent root rot. Space plants approximately 12-18 inches apart.
Compatibility:
This plant is compatible with other moisture-loving perennials such as Caltha palustris (Kingcup), Iris pseudacorus (Yellow Flag Iris), and various sedges. Avoid planting in dry, arid conditions or in containers that drain too quickly.
Care:
- Watering: Maintain consistent moisture. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, to keep the soil damp.
- Fertilizing: Generally not required if planted in fertile soil. Over-fertilizing can lead to lush foliage with fewer flowers.
- Pruning: Deadhead spent flowers to encourage further blooming. Cut back the foliage in late autumn after it has yellowed.
- Pest & Disease: Monitor for slugs and snails, which can damage young foliage. Ensure good air circulation to minimize fungal issues.
