Product Information

Full details

The Rackhams Cush N is designed for beachgoers, poolside relaxers, and outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize sun protection and comfort while reading or lounging. Its key benefit is providing a portable, verified UPF 50+ barrier for your face and hair without sacrificing airflow or comfort. The main caveat is that it is specifically designed for chairs with a solid, high back or flat surface, meaning it may not be compatible with lightweight folding chairs that lack structural support for the shade's base.

FAQs

Does this shade block all UV rays?

It is certified by ARPANSA to block 98% of UVA/UVB rays (UPF 50+).

Can I use this on a standard dining chair?

It is compatible with most chairs that have a solid, reasonably high flat back.

Is the cushion removable?

The cushion is designed as an integrated part of the system for support, though it can be deflated for storage.

How do I clean the shade?

Use a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or machine washing to preserve the UV protective coating.

Will it blow away in the wind?

When strapped to a lounger it is very secure; when used on the sand, we recommend placing a small weight or towel corner under the base for added stability.

Troubleshooting

Shade feels unstable on the chair

Ensure the attachment straps are pulled tight and the base of the shade is flush against the headrest.

Fabric sagging over the face

Check that the internal support struts are correctly positioned and fully extended to maintain canopy tension.

Difficulty inflating the cushion

Ensure the valve is fully open and not obstructed by the fabric sleeve; verify there are no pinhole leaks if the cushion deflates rapidly.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Verified ARPANSA UPF 50+ sun protection
Lightweight and compact design for easy transport
Compatible with a wide variety of sun loungers
Inflatable cushion provides superior reading support
Open construction prevents the stuffy feel of fully enclosed shades

Cons

Not suitable for flimsy chairs with no back support
Inflatable component requires manual setup
Surface must be relatively flat to maximize stability

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To set up, inflate the cushion to your desired firmness. If using on a lounger, wrap the adjustable attachment straps around the headrest area and tighten until secure. For ground use, simply place the unit on a flat surface. Compatibility is widest with solid-backed outdoor furniture; it is not recommended for mesh-back chairs with significant curvature or very thin frames that cannot support the tension of the straps. To care for your Cush N, wipe the fabric with a damp cloth after saltwater exposure and store it in the provided bag only when completely dry to prevent mildew.
