FAQs

Will this really keep all squirrels out?

The cage design is specifically sized to block squirrels while allowing small songbirds to enter and feed safely.

What type of bird seed is best for this feeder?

Use high-energy seed mixes or sunflower hearts that fit through the dispensing ports easily.

How often should I clean the feeder?

It is recommended to clean the feeder every 3-4 weeks, or sooner if you notice moisture, debris, or bird droppings.

Can I hang this on a balcony?

Yes, its compact size and lantern design make it an excellent choice for balconies and patios.

Is the feeder rust-proof?

It is made of powder-coated steel, which is highly resistant to rust and outdoor elements, though longevity depends on proper maintenance.

Can larger birds like pigeons use this?

No, the outer cage is specifically designed to exclude larger birds like pigeons and magpies.

Troubleshooting

Seed is not flowing correctly

Check for moisture clumping or debris blockage at the base ports; clear the opening and ensure the seed used is not too large for the mechanism.

Birds are hesitant to use the feeder

It may take several days for birds to get used to a new object; ensure the feeder is placed near natural cover and is not moving excessively in high wind.

Visible rust after long-term use

While the steel is powder-coated, ensure you check the hanging wire for scratches; touch up any exposed metal areas with a rust-inhibiting paint if necessary.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setting up your Happy Beaks feeder is straightforward. Simply ensure the feeder is hung from a sturdy branch or hook capable of supporting its weight when full. The feeder is compatible with standard garden bird seeds; ensure the seeds are small enough to flow easily through the internal ports. To maintain the feeder, regularly inspect the interior for damp seed or debris. Clean the feeder at least once a month using a mild, bird-safe disinfectant and a stiff brush to scrub the cage and the inner plastic reservoir. Ensure the feeder is completely dry before adding fresh seed to prevent mold and bacterial growth.
