Product Information

Full details

The NGT Brolly Spike is designed for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts who require a stable, wind-resistant anchor for their fishing umbrellas or brollies. Its primary benefit is the combination of a spiraled ground-driving mechanism and a secure clamp system, which keeps equipment upright in soft or difficult terrain. While highly effective, users should note that the spike's performance is optimized for natural ground surfaces and may not be suitable for rocky, paved, or extremely hardened ground where the spiral threading cannot penetrate.

FAQs

Will this fit all fishing umbrellas?

It is designed to fit the vast majority of standard fishing umbrella and brolly poles due to its adjustable clamping system.

Can I use this on a wooden fishing platform?

No, the NGT Brolly Spike is designed specifically for soft earth or mud surfaces.

Is the turning key bar detachable?

Yes, the turning key bar is a separate piece that slides through the spike head for leverage, making it easy to remove for storage.

Does the aluminum rust?

Aluminum is naturally resistant to corrosion, but it is recommended to clean and dry the unit after use in muddy water to maintain its longevity.

How deep should I drive the spike?

You should drive the spike until the bottom section of the clamping tube is flush with the ground level for maximum stability.

Troubleshooting

Spike will not penetrate the ground

The ground may be too hard or rocky. Do not force the spike with a hammer, as this may damage the aluminum; instead, move to a softer area or pre-drill a small starter hole.

Umbrella pole rotates in high wind

Tighten the thumb screws firmly. If the pole still slips, ensure the pole is pushed all the way to the base of the holder and check that no dirt is obstructing the grip.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Lightweight yet durable aluminum build
Provides superior wind resistance for umbrellas
Easy to install using the included turning key
Secure locking mechanism prevents pole slippage
Compact size for easy transport in tackle bags

Cons

Not suitable for rocky or concrete ground
Requires significant physical torque in dry, hard soil
Aluminum can be scratched by aggressive metal pole fittings

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To set up the spike, clear any surface debris from your chosen location. Insert the turning key bar into the provided hole at the top of the spike and rotate clockwise to drive the threads into the ground. Ensure the spike is vertical before the final turns. To maintain the unit, rinse off mud or grit from the threads after every use to prevent buildup. Periodically check the thumb screws to ensure they are free from corrosion and that the threads are not stripped. If you are using an umbrella with an unusually thin pole, consider using a shim or tape to ensure a snug fit within the clamp.
