FAQs

What is an IEC C19 connector used for?

An IEC C19 connector is typically used for high-power equipment that requires more current than standard C13 connectors can handle, such as powerful servers, PDUs (Power Distribution Units), and high-end audio-visual equipment, rated up to 16A.

Can I use this connector with any power cable?

No, this connector is specifically designed for 3-core flex cables with a 1.5mm² cross-sectional area and an overall diameter of up to 12mm.

Do I need to solder the wires?

No, this connector features screw terminals, eliminating the need for soldering. You simply strip the wires and secure them with the screws.

What is the maximum power this connector can handle?

The connector is rated for 16 Amps (16A) at 250 Volts (250V).

How do I ensure a secure connection?

Ensure the wires are stripped to the correct length, inserted fully into their respective terminals, and that the screw terminals are tightened firmly. Also, ensure the cable's outer sheath is properly secured by the connector's strain relief.

What voltage is this connector compatible with?

This connector is compatible with power systems rated up to 250 Volts.

Troubleshooting

Device not receiving power

Verify that the Live, Neutral, and Earth wires are correctly connected to their respective screw terminals. Ensure all terminals are securely tightened. Check the integrity of the cable itself.

Connector feels loose or unstable

Re-open the connector and ensure the cable is properly seated and secured by the strain relief. Tighten all screw terminals again. Confirm the cable diameter is within the 12mm limit.

Overheating during use

This may indicate an overloaded circuit (exceeding 16A) or a poor connection. Disconnect power immediately. Check for loose terminals or damaged wiring. Ensure the connected device's power draw is within the connector's 16A rating.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Solder-free installation via convenient screw terminals.
  • Robust construction suitable for high-power applications up to 16A.
  • Standard IEC C19 interface ensures broad compatibility with many high-draw devices.
  • Accommodates a wide range of common 3-core flex cable sizes.

Cons

  • Requires specific knowledge of wiring for safe and correct installation.
  • Limited to 16A, not suitable for extremely high-draw industrial equipment.
  • Not compatible with thinner, unshielded, or different connector types.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Ensure the power source is disconnected.
  2. Strip the outer insulation of your 3-core flex cable (1.5mm²) to expose the three internal wires (Live, Neutral, Earth).
  3. Ensure the cable's overall diameter does not exceed 12mm. Secure the cable gland.
  4. Connect each wire (Live, Neutral, Earth) to its corresponding screw terminal within the connector.
  5. Tighten the screw terminals firmly.
  6. Assemble the connector housing.

Compatibility:

  • Designed for use with 3-core flex cables with a 1.5mm² cross-sectional area.
  • Maximum overall cable diameter is 12mm.
  • Compatible with appliances and power sources rated up to 16A and 250V.

Care:

  • Periodically check that screw terminals remain tight.
  • Keep the connector clean and free from dust and moisture.
  • Avoid exposing the connector to excessive heat or physical stress.
