Setup, Compatibility & Care
To properly set up the bit, ensure the cheeks sit flush against the horse's mouth without creating excessive pressure at the corners. It is standard to use leather or synthetic bit keepers to attach the upper cheeks to the bridle cheekpieces; this keeps the bit stable and prevents the arms from catching on obstacles.
Care for the bit involves washing it with mild, non-toxic soap after every ride to remove saliva and debris. Inspect the flexible material regularly for teeth marks, scratches, or signs of wear. If the surface becomes rough or cut, it should be replaced immediately, as damaged plastic or rubber can cause discomfort or sores on the bars of the horse's mouth.
