It is best suited for moderate-sized logs; very large, seasoned hardwoods may require more powerful hydraulic tools.
No, the sharpener is designed to fit into the chuck of any standard power drill.
Yes, standard club hammer heads and handles can usually be serviced or replaced if they become damaged over years of heavy use.
You should wear safety glasses to protect against wood chips, sturdy steel-toe boots, and heavy-duty work gloves.
Sharpen the blade whenever you notice it is struggling to bite into the wood or if the edge becomes visibly dull.
Use a metal file to carefully grind down the flared edges to prevent metal shards from chipping off.
Check if you are hitting a knot or if the log is too green. Try shifting the position of the splitter to a different section of the log.
Ensure you maintain a constant angle and light pressure; do not force the sharpener into the blade.
Before beginning, ensure your workspace is clear of debris and that you are wearing appropriate safety gear, such as eye protection and sturdy work gloves. To maintain the splitter, regularly inspect the head for mushrooming and use a file if necessary to smooth out any metal burrs. The drill-mounted sharpener should be used at a moderate speed to avoid overheating the metal. Always store the tools in a dry environment to prevent rust and ensure the handle of the lump hammer is checked for tightness before every use.
