Polyurethane resins are softer and more flexible than epoxies and therefore cause less stress on delicate components. It has good water and impact resistance and excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates. Supplied in a divided pack containing separate sections of hardener and resin in the correct proportions. To mix, the central clip is removed and the two sections mixed in the bag before opening. Flame retardant to UL94V-0. Electrolube part number UR5547.

This Electrolube General Purpose Polyurethane Resin is designed for professionals needing a semi-rigid, flame-retardant casting solution for potting and cable jointing. Its key benefit is offering flexibility that reduces stress on delicate components compared to rigid epoxies, alongside excellent adhesion and resistance to water and impact. A caveat to consider is its polyurethane nature, meaning it is inherently softer than epoxy resins, which may not be suitable for applications requiring extreme hardness.

Extended Product Information
FAQs
What is the pot life of the mixed resin?
The pot life varies depending on the volume and ambient temperature. Refer to the product's technical datasheet for specific pot life information.
What is the operating temperature range after curing?
The cured resin offers good performance, but for precise temperature limits, consult the technical datasheet as it depends on the specific application and environmental factors.
Can this resin be used for food-grade applications?
This product is not intended for food-grade applications. It is formulated for industrial and electronic encapsulation.
How should I dispose of unused or mixed resin?
Uncured resin should be disposed of according to local regulations for chemical waste. Fully cured resin is generally considered non-hazardous but should still be disposed of responsibly.
What safety precautions should I take when using this resin?
Always use in a well-ventilated area. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed safety information.
Is this resin compatible with all types of electronic components?
It is generally compatible with most electronic components due to its flexibility. However, always test on a small scale if encapsulating highly sensitive or unusually configured components.
Troubleshooting
Resin not curing or curing slowly
Ensure the resin and hardener were mixed thoroughly. Verify the ambient temperature is within the recommended range for curing. Check that the correct proportions were used.
Poor adhesion to substrate
Confirm the substrate surface was properly cleaned and dried before application. Abrading the surface slightly may improve adhesion on difficult materials.
Bubbles in the cured resin
Mix the resin slowly and carefully to minimize air entrapment. Allow the mixed resin to degas for a short period before pouring, or consider using a vacuum chamber for critical applications.
Resin is too soft or too hard
This product is formulated for semi-rigidity. If a different hardness is required, consider alternative Electrolube resin formulations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Offers superior flexibility to protect delicate components.
High flame retardancy (UL94V-0) enhances safety.
Good resistance to water and impact provides durable protection.
Strong adhesion to various materials ensures reliable bonding.
Easy-to-use divided pack for accurate mixing.
Cons
Less rigid than epoxy resins, which might be a limitation for certain structural applications.
Requires careful handling and adherence to mixing instructions for optimal results.
Polyurethane chemistry may not be suitable for all high-temperature environments without further testing.
Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Preparation: Ensure the surfaces to be bonded or the mould is clean, dry, and free from contaminants.
Mixing: Remove the central clip dividing the resin and hardener within the twin pack. Knead the bag thoroughly to ensure complete mixing of both components. Once mixed, cut a corner of the bag to pour.
Application: Pour the mixed resin into the desired area or mould. Ensure adequate ventilation during application.
Curing: Allow the resin to cure fully according to the manufacturer's recommended time, typically at room temperature. Avoid disturbing the component during the initial curing phase.
Compatibility:
This resin exhibits excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates including most plastics, metals, and ceramics. Compatibility with specific elastomers or highly flexible plastics should be tested.
It is designed for general-purpose potting and casting; for extreme temperature or chemical resistance requirements, specialized resins may be more suitable.
Care:
Store the product in its original, sealed packaging in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
Once mixed, the resin has a limited pot life and should be used promptly.
Clean tools and spills immediately after use with an appropriate solvent (refer to product data sheet for specific solvent recommendations).
