FAQs

Are these chisels suitable for use with a metal hammer?

While they feature reinforced striking caps, it is highly recommended to use a wooden, rubber, or plastic mallet to prolong the life of the handle and cap.

Can I use these on hard woods?

Yes, the Chrome Vanadium steel construction is robust enough for use on most hardwoods.

What is the length of the blades?

Each chisel in this set features a 110mm long blade.

Does this set come with a case?

The product is provided as a 4-piece set; please check individual retailer packaging for storage solutions like trays or rolls.

How do I maintain the bevel angle?

Use a honing guide set to the manufacturer's specified angle when sharpening to ensure consistency.

Troubleshooting

Chisel edge becoming dull

Regularly hone the blade on a fine-grit sharpening stone to maintain the factory bevel angle.

Blade showing signs of surface rust

Clean the blade with a fine abrasive pad, wipe clean, and apply a thin coat of rust-preventative oil.

Handle feeling loose

Inspect the striking cap and handle assembly; if the damage is severe, replace the tool as the handle is intended to be permanently fixed.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Durable drop-forged steel construction
  • Ergonomic handle design for comfort
  • Striking caps allow for mallet use
  • Excellent for precision work in tight areas

Cons

  • Shorter blades may not suit heavy-duty removal
  • Requires regular honing to maintain edge sharpness
  • Limited to four specific sizes

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure the longevity and performance of your Faithfull chisels, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  1. Initial Honing: While factory-sharpened, a final honing on a whetstone or diamond plate is recommended before first use to achieve a razor-sharp edge.
  2. Storage: Store in a dry environment to prevent corrosion on the Chrome Vanadium steel blades. Use a tool roll or a dedicated rack.
  3. Cleaning: Wipe the blades with a light machine oil after use to provide a barrier against rust.
  4. Striking: Always match your striking tool to the task; use a wooden mallet for delicate work and a rubber or plastic mallet for firmer strikes to protect the steel caps.
