Setup, Compatibility & Care
These Alstroemeria are supplied as jumbo plug plants, which are larger than standard plugs and offer a head start for successful establishment. Upon receiving your jumbo plug plants, it's recommended to:
- Soak the plugs: Gently water the plug plants and allow them to soak for about 10-15 minutes to rehydrate the roots.
- Planting: Plant them into pots or garden beds promptly. Use a good quality, well-draining compost. For containers, ensure they have drainage holes.
- Location: Choose a sunny to partially shaded location. Alstroemeria prefer a spot that receives at least 4-6 hours of sunlight per day.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry periods, but avoid waterlogging. Water the base of the plant to prevent fungal issues on the foliage.
- Feeding: Feed your Alstroemeria with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring to autumn) to encourage continuous blooming.
- Deadheading: Regularly remove spent blooms by pulling the stem down towards the base of the plant and giving it a slight twist. This encourages more flowers to develop.
- Winter Care: Alstroemeria Inticancha® varieties are hardy and can typically overwinter in the ground in milder climates. In colder regions, it's advisable to provide a layer of mulch or move container plants to a sheltered location.
Compatibility: These plants are generally compatible with most common garden plants. They look particularly striking when paired with plants that offer contrasting textures or colors, such as ornamental grasses, silver-leafed plants, or bright yellow perennials.
