FAQs

When is the best time to plant these bulbs?

The optimal planting window is from August to November.

Can I grow these in pots?

While raised beds or garden soil are preferred, you can grow them in deep containers if drainage is excellent.

Do I need to do anything to the bulbs before planting?

Gently separate the bulbs into individual cloves, keeping the skins intact as much as possible.

How deep should I plant the cloves?

Plant them approximately 5-10cm deep with the pointed end facing upward.

How do I know when to harvest?

Harvest when the leaves turn yellow and begin to dry out, usually in mid-to-late summer.

Troubleshooting

Bulbs failing to sprout in spring

Check soil drainage; garlic rots easily in waterlogged soil during winter.

Small bulb size at harvest

Ensure they are planted in a sunny location with adequate spacing to prevent competition for nutrients.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Specifically adapted for UK climates
High-quality flavor profiles selected
Suitable for various planting environments
Easy for beginners to start

Cons

Specific varieties depend on seasonal stock
Strict planting window between August and November
Requires outdoor soil space for optimal growth

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To ensure success, plant your bulbs between August and November while the soil is still workable. Place the bulbs in a sunny, open spot in your garden. For care, avoid overwatering, as garlic prefers well-drained soil to prevent rot. If growing in heavy clay, add grit or compost to improve drainage. Keep the area free of weeds and harvest only when the leaves begin to yellow and flop over in late summer.
