Product Information

Full details

The Prima Classic Endfeed End Cap 8mm is designed for professional plumbers and DIY enthusiasts who require a reliable, permanent seal for 8mm copper piping systems. Its primary benefit lies in its high-quality copper construction and full WRAS approval, ensuring safety and durability for both water and gas installations. While these fittings provide an exceptionally secure joint, users should note that they require soldering equipment and proper brazing technique for a leak-free installation, making them less suitable for those without experience in hot-work plumbing.

Troubleshooting

Solder fails to flow into the joint

Ensure the pipe and fitting are clean and sufficient heat is being applied evenly around the circumference of the fitting.

Leak discovered after cooling

Clean the area, re-apply flux, and reheat the fitting to allow for further solder flow, or disassemble and re-prep if the oxidation was too severe.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • WRAS approved for safe use with drinking water
  • Manufactured to rigorous EN 1254 quality standards
  • Durable copper construction ensures longevity
  • Compatible with both gas and water installations

Cons

  • Requires soldering skills and equipment
  • Permanent installation cannot be easily removed or reused
  • Not suitable for use with plastic piping

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To install the end cap, follow these steps:

  1. Preparation: Cut the 8mm pipe cleanly and ensure the edge is deburred to prevent internal leaks.
  2. Cleaning: Thoroughly clean the end of the copper pipe and the inside of the cap with a wire wool or abrasive pad to remove oxidation.
  3. Fluxing: Apply a thin, even layer of plumbing flux to the pipe end.
  4. Heating: Slide the cap onto the pipe and apply heat evenly using a blowtorch until the flux bubbles. Touch the solder wire to the edge of the fitting, allowing it to be drawn in by capillary action.
  5. Finishing: Allow the joint to cool naturally before wiping away excess flux, as leftover flux can lead to long-term corrosion.

Compatibility is limited specifically to 8mm copper tube. Do not attempt to use these with PEX or other plastic piping, as the high heat required for installation will damage them.
