Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: Choose a location with partial to full shade. Ensure the planting site has well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and just as deep. Gently remove the plant from its container, loosen any circling roots, and place it in the hole. Backfill with soil, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding ground.
Compatibility: This rhododendron variety performs best when planted alongside other acid-loving plants such as azaleas, ferns, and heathers. Avoid planting in areas prone to strong winds or intense afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Care: Water regularly, especially during establishment and dry periods, but avoid waterlogged conditions. Amend the soil with organic matter to improve drainage and acidity. Apply a layer of mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds, keeping it a few inches away from the trunk. Prune only to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches; this is typically done after flowering.
