Setup, Compatibility & Care
When planting your Photinia, select a location that receives either full sun or partial shade. Ensure the soil is well-drained to prevent root saturation, which is the primary cause of poor plant health.
- Planting: Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and mix in organic matter to improve soil structure.
- Watering: Provide regular deep watering during the first growing season until the root system is established.
- Pruning: Trim back the current season's growth in mid-to-late summer. This removes faded tips and stimulates the production of the next cycle of red leaves.
- Feeding: Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support vigorous growth.
- Care: Monitor for signs of dryness during prolonged summer heatwaves, though established plants are notably drought-tolerant.
