Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing: Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, or directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed. Use a well-draining seed compost. Lightly cover seeds with compost and maintain a temperature of 15-20°C (60-70°F). Germination can be erratic and may take 14-28 days.
Transplanting: Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots. Harden off young plants for a week before planting them into their final positions outdoors, spacing them 20-30cm (8-12 inches) apart.
Soil & Location: Prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It can tolerate poor, sandy soils but dislikes waterlogged conditions.
Watering: Water regularly during the growing season, but allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Once established, it is quite drought-tolerant.
Care: Deadhead spent flowers to encourage further blooming. In colder climates, consider treating it as an annual or providing winter protection.
