Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup: As an automatic watch, the Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot requires initial winding to start the movement. Gently turn the crown (located at the 3 o'clock position, unless in the set position) clockwise about 30-40 times until you feel some resistance. Avoid over-winding. The day and date can be set by pulling the crown out to the second position and turning it accordingly. Ensure you set the time and date forward, past midnight, to correctly engage the day/date change mechanism.
Compatibility: This watch is a standalone mechanical timepiece. It does not require any software or electronic compatibility. The included straps are designed to fit standard lug widths for this watch model, and the spare strap can be interchanged using a spring bar tool if desired.
Care:
- Cleaning: Wipe the titanium case and sapphire crystal with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, which can damage the finish or seals. The straps should be cleaned according to their material; the nylon/leather strap can be wiped clean, while the suede strap may require a specialized suede brush or cleaner.
- Water Resistance: While water-resistant to 100 meters, it is recommended to have the water-resistance seals checked periodically, especially if the watch is frequently exposed to water or subjected to impacts. Do not operate the crown or pushers while submerged.
- Movement: Automatic movements benefit from regular wear. If the watch is not worn daily, store it flat or on a watch winder to maintain its accuracy. Periodic servicing by a qualified watchmaker is recommended (typically every 3-5 years) to ensure optimal performance.
