The Garden Selections Cast Iron Poppy Dish Wild Bird Feeder is designed for bird enthusiasts and gardeners looking to add a functional, decorative piece to their outdoor space. Its key benefit is the dual-purpose design that acts as both a vibrant garden ornament and a reliable feeding station for various bird species. A notable caveat to keep in mind is that, as an open-dish feeder, it is best suited for sheltered areas to protect the food from heavy rainfall, which may require more frequent cleaning compared to enclosed hopper feeders.

Yes, the cast iron construction is durable enough for all-season use, though you should clean it more frequently during wet months.
Because it is an open-dish feeder, squirrels may be attracted to the food. To deter them, place the feeder in an open area away from fences or trees they can use to jump from.
Use warm water and a mild detergent or a dedicated bird feeder cleaner. Scrub with a soft brush and rinse thoroughly before air drying.
Yes, the shallow design is very accessible for smaller garden birds like blue tits and robins.
Ensure your pot has a drainage hole and is filled with heavy potting mix or soil to provide the necessary weight for the pole.
Use a larger, heavier stone at the base to anchor the stake, or pack the soil more tightly around the pole.
Relocate the feeder to a more sheltered position or place it under the canopy of a shrub to minimize direct rain exposure.
Lightly sand the affected area and apply a touch-up of weather-resistant exterior paint to protect the metal.
Setup:
Compatibility:
This feeder works with most loose bird food mixes, sunflower hearts, peanuts, and mealworms. It is not suitable for suet blocks or liquid nectar.
Care:
Regular maintenance is vital for bird health. Rinse the dish with a mild, bird-safe disinfectant solution weekly to remove old food residues and prevent the spread of avian diseases. Dry completely before refilling to ensure the food remains fresh.
