Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing: Sow Unwins Lupin Blue Javelin seeds between March and May. Use individual 9cm pots filled with soil, covering the seeds with a thin layer of vermiculite.
Germination: Once seeds germinate, water from below to keep the soil consistently moist. Mist the leaves occasionally.
Transplanting: In May to June, transplant seedlings into pots or directly into their final position in the garden. Aim for the center of a pot or the center of a flower bed for optimal impact.
Support: Due to their height, provide support such as canes or plant supports to keep the flower spikes upright, especially if you plan to cut them.
After Flowering: Once the lupins have finished flowering, cut down the stems and dig them into the soil. This practice enriches the soil with nitrogen.
Compatibility: Pairs well with other mid-border perennials and grasses. Its nitrogen-fixing properties benefit leafy plants.
