FAQs

Can I use these for gas installations?

Yes, these fittings are suitable for use with gas, provided that the installation is performed by a qualified professional in accordance with local safety regulations.

Is this fitting lead-free?

Yes, Prima Classic fittings are designed for modern plumbing standards and are safe for use in potable (drinking) water systems.

What is the maximum pressure rating?

The fittings are designed to operate within standard domestic plumbing pressure ranges for water and gas; consult the EN 1254 specification for detailed pressure-temperature data.

Can I reuse the fitting if the joint fails?

Endfeed fittings are intended for a single, permanent installation. If a joint fails, it is recommended to cut it out and use a new fitting.

Does this coupling work with plastic pipes?

No, this is a copper endfeed fitting specifically designed for copper-to-copper connections.

Troubleshooting

Solder fails to flow into the joint

Check that the pipe and fitting have been adequately cleaned and that sufficient flux is applied. Ensure the joint is heated evenly.

Leak discovered after cooling

Drain the system completely, clean the area, and re-heat to re-apply a small amount of additional solder, or replace the fitting if the gap is too large.

Pipe does not fit into the coupling

Verify the pipe is 10mm and that there are no burrs on the end of the pipe from cutting.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • High-quality copper construction for reliability
  • WRAS approved for safe potable water use
  • Complies with EN 1254 standards
  • Excellent value for trade or residential projects
  • Compatible with both gas and water systems

Cons

  • Requires soldering equipment and expertise
  • Installation is permanent and not easily dismantled
  • Requires clean pipe surfaces for a successful joint
  • Not suitable for use with plastic piping systems

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To install, first cut your 10mm copper pipe square and remove all burrs using a deburring tool. Clean the exterior of the pipe end and the interior of the coupling. Apply a thin layer of plumbing flux to both parts. Assemble the joint and heat the fitting using a blowtorch until the flux bubbles. Apply lead-free solder to the mouth of the joint; the solder will be drawn into the gap by capillary action. Allow the joint to cool naturally without moving it. Keep the fittings in a dry environment to prevent oxidation before use, and ensure that all joints are pressure tested according to local building regulations before covering or commissioning the system.
