Setup, Compatibility & Care
When you receive your Acer, place it in a spot that receives partial shade, avoiding areas with harsh midday sun that can burn the delicate leaves. Use a high-quality ericaceous compost if potting, as Japanese Acers prefer slightly acidic soil conditions. Ensure your pot has adequate drainage holes, as these trees dislike waterlogged roots. Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy. During the first two years of growth, avoid heavy pruning; simply remove any dead or crossing branches in late winter when the tree is dormant to maintain its natural, elegant shape.
