Setup, Compatibility & Care
Compatibility:
Before installation, it is crucial to verify that the NGK Iridium IX Spark Plug (5705) is compatible with your specific vehicle's make, model, and year. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or a professional mechanic. The 14mm external thread and 16mm spanner size are common but not universal.
Installation:
- Ensure the engine is cool before starting.
- Use the correct spark plug socket (16mm) to remove old spark plugs.
- Carefully thread the new NGK Iridium IX spark plug in by hand to avoid cross-threading.
- Tighten the spark plug to the manufacturer's specified torque using a torque wrench. Overtightening can damage the cylinder head, while undertightening can cause leaks.
- Reconnect spark plug wires or coils.
Care:
Spark plugs are generally maintenance-free and designed for long life. Regular checks during routine maintenance (e.g., oil changes) are recommended. Inspect for fouling or damage. Cleaning is typically not advised; replacement is the standard procedure when performance degrades.
