Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Identify Utility: Determine the type of underground service you are marking (e.g., water, gas, electrical).
- Position Tape: Lay the detectable warning tape directly above the buried utility line. For maximum protection, place it at a specified depth above the utility as per local regulations or best practices (e.g., 12-18 inches above the service).
- Ensure Detectability: Confirm that the tape is laid flat and is not excessively folded or bunched, which could impede detection.
- Backfill: Carefully backfill the trench, ensuring the tape remains in its intended position.
Compatibility:
This tape is designed to be compatible with standard non-ferrous metal locating equipment, as the stainless steel wires provide a detectable signal. It is suitable for use with most commercially available utility locators and metal detectors used in the construction and utility industries.
Care:
- Storage: Store the tape in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain its material integrity and vibrant color.
- Handling: Handle the tape carefully during installation to avoid unnecessary stretching or damage.
- Cleaning: If the tape becomes soiled during installation, wipe it with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals that could degrade the polypropylene or the printing.
