The TIMco M10 x 160mm Carriage Bolts are professional-grade fasteners designed for carpenters, builders, and DIY enthusiasts requiring a secure, vibration-resistant connection for timber-to-timber or ironmongery-to-timber projects. Featuring a distinctive domed head and a square anti-spin shoulder, these bolts provide a clean, snag-free finish and easy single-sided installation; however, users should note that the 160mm length is partially threaded, making it critical to verify the required clamping thickness before purchase.

These M10 hex nuts typically require a 17mm socket or spanner.
The zinc finish provides basic corrosion resistance for outdoor timber projects, but they are not stainless steel and should be avoided in marine or highly acidic environments.
No, at 160mm length, this bolt is partially threaded.
While not strictly required, using a flat washer under the nut is recommended to distribute pressure and prevent the nut from sinking into the wood.
The domed head has a diameter of 24.00mm.
No, carriage bolts are specifically designed for timber-to-timber or timber-to-ironmongery applications due to the square shoulder design.
Ensure the square shoulder is fully driven into the timber using a hammer or mallet to create an anti-spin lock.
Check the threads for debris or damage; if clear, ensure you are using the included matching nut and not a different thread pitch.
Use extra washers to take up the space or consider a shorter bolt length if the threads do not engage properly.
To install, first drill an M10 clearance hole through your timber. Use a slightly smaller diameter bit if you want the wood to grip the square shoulder tightly, or exactly M10 for a standard fit. Once the bolt is inserted, use a standard 17mm socket or wrench to tighten the hex nut. To maintain the life of the zinc plating, avoid overtightening with heavy-duty impact drivers, as this can strip the threads or damage the protective finish. If installing in damp or outdoor environments, consider applying a thin layer of weather-resistant grease to the threads to further prevent future corrosion.
