Its patented air syphon design makes installation simple and cleaning fast, making it an ideal addition to any filtration system.
During the cleaning cycle, air is drawn into the vessel as it drains. This creates agitation inside the chamber, effectively dislodging trapped debris from the K+Media and flushing it out via the waste outlet. The entire cleaning process takes just minutes and requires minimal intervention.
Key Features
--Improves water quality and clarity
--Includes advanced K+Media.
Introducing the new Tempest from Evolution Aqua. The Tempest filter is an innovative polishing system for ponds that will help to deliver crystal clear, healthy water. Supplied with Evolution Aquas New K+ Media. Designed to be used in conjunction with any filtration system, the Tempest offers additional mechanical and biological filtration. The Tempest filter can also be used on quarantine systems or as a standalone filter on smaller ponds up to 5,000 Litres / 1,100 Gallons / 1,320 US Gallons. The Tempest filter is easy to install and is simple and quick to clean, by way of a unique, patent-pending, air syphon design. During the cleaning process, air is drawn into the filter as it empties which causes the water to agitate, effectively cleaning the K+Media. Water is pumped up through the Tempest filter. The K+Media moves to the top of the filter, becoming a mechanical barrier that traps debris as it flows through the system. Waste is trapped in the K+Media until the cleaning cycle dislodges it and it gets flushed away. With the pump turned off, slide valves closed, and waste valve open, air is drawn into the filter. As air and water mix inside the filter tube, the media starts to move chaotically, dislodging the trapped waste. Dirty water then exits the filter tube at the bottom via the waste line, leaving clean media. FAQs
How often should I clean the Tempest filter?
The cleaning frequency depends on your pond's conditions. Check the filter weekly and clean it when the water clarity reduces or the flow rate decreases.
What is K+Media, and what does it do?
K+Media is the filtration media supplied with the Tempest filter. It provides a large surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonize, supporting biological filtration and improving water quality.
Can I use the Tempest filter as a standalone filter?
The Tempest filter can be used as a standalone filter on smaller ponds up to 5,000 Litres. For larger ponds, it is best used in conjunction with other filtration systems.
What size of pond is the Tempest filter suitable for?
The Tempest filter is suitable for ponds up to 5,000 Litres, providing effective mechanical and biological filtration.
What are the inlet and outlet sizes?
The inlet and outlet sizes are 1" (UK / USA) / 50mm (EU).
How does the air syphon cleaning work?
During the cleaning cycle, air is drawn into the filter as it empties. This causes agitation inside the chamber, dislodging trapped debris from the K+Media, which is then flushed out via the waste outlet.
Is there a warranty?
Yes, the product includes a 2-year manufacturer guarantee.
Troubleshooting
Cloudy Water
Check and clean the filter and ensure the flow rate is correct.
Reduced Flow Rate
Clean the filter and remove any blockages.
Filter not cleaning effectively
Check if the pump is working correctly and the flow rate is appropriate. Ensure the air syphon is functioning and the waste valve is opening properly during the cleaning cycle.
Debris escaping the filter
Check for any damage to the filter media or housing. Ensure the filter is correctly assembled and all seals are tight.
Air bubbles in the outlet
Check the air syphon mechanism and ensure it is working correctly. It might be an indicator that the cleaning cycle is not complete.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
Installation: Connect the Tempest filter to your existing filtration system. Ensure the inlet and outlet are properly connected using the appropriate fittings. The filter can be used as a standalone filter on smaller ponds.
Compatibility: Compatible with most standard pond filtration systems. Make sure the pump's flow rate matches the recommended flow rate for the Tempest filter (5,000 LPH is optimum). Consult the filter's specifications for correct fitting sizes.
Flow Rate: The optimum flow rate is 5,000 LPH, do not exceed the maximum flow rate.
Cleaning: The Tempest filter's unique air syphon design makes cleaning straightforward. Turn off the pump, close slide valves, open the waste valve, and allow air to enter the filter to agitate the media and flush out debris. Follow the manufacturer's cleaning instructions for the best results.
Maintenance: Regular cleaning is essential to maintain optimal performance. Check the filter weekly and clean as needed. The frequency of cleaning depends on the pond's bio-load and the amount of debris present. Regular inspection of the K+Media is also recommended.
Water Changes: Perform regular partial water changes to maintain overall water quality.
Winter Care: In colder climates, consider protecting the filter from freezing temperatures to prevent damage. Disconnect and store the filter indoors if necessary.
