Its yellow flowers are strongly fragrant, with long trailing petals. The essential oil derived from these flowers is abundant and highly valued for its fragrance in the perfume and cosmetics industries, and it is also being utilized in the food industry. Ylang Ylang essential oil is known to be a mental stimulant. It is widely regarded in aromatherapy as one of the best oils for relaxing the mind and body. Simply inhaling the scent is believed to help lower blood pressure. Adding the oil to a bath or using it in a massage can naturally enhance relaxation. It is often used to relieve stress, depression, shock, or anxiety. As a hair tonic, it helps balance oil production. However, high concentrations of Ylang Ylang can cause headaches or nausea. The name Ylang Ylang translates to "flower of flowers" in Malay. Traditionally, its fragrance was considered an aphrodisiac and was used in marriage rituals. In Indonesia, the flowers were strewn on the marriage bed of newlyweds.
