Available in black, it is suitable for both domestic and commercial applications due to its robust construction. The tee provides reliable connections for waste systems and is crafted from durable ABS material. It conforms to relevant standards, ensuring quality and safety.
Features:
- Made of durable ABS material.
- Suitable for solvent weld waste pipe connections.
- Lightweight yet strong design.
- Conforms to BS EN 1455-1:2000 and BS 5255 standards.
Benefits:
- Reliable performance in various applications.
- Enhanced durability compared to traditional materials.
- Cost-effective solution for waste system installations.
Waste tees are used in two different ways. Their main use is to connect a section of waste pipe into an existing pipe run. The tee is swept to ensure that the new section flows into the main run in the correct direction of flow. In most kitchen and bathroom applications the branch section drops into a main pipe run that is situated below it. The second use for a tee is to create a 90 degree bend with access for cleaning. This is achieved by using an access plug in the part of the swept tee that is at the opposite end to the direction of flow.
This fitting is available in 32mm, 40mm and 50mm size options.
Our solvent weld waste is manufactured in the UK to BS EN 1455 and is kitemarked.
To make a solvent weld joint, first ensure that the outer wall of the pipe and the inner wall of the fitting are both clean and free from grit or swarf. Apply SC250 solvent cement to both surfaces. Push the pipe fully into the fitting and give it a twist to ensure that full contact has been made. Clean off any excess solvent with a damp cloth and leave for 5 minutes to set. The installation should be left for 12 hours before testing.
Solvent weld joints are permanent - they cannot be demounted once the joint has been made. When using solvent cement, always work in a well ventilated area and keep the cement away from heat sources or naked flames. Avoid any contact with skin - if contact does occur then wash thoroughly with soap and water.

FAQs
What does 'swept' mean in relation to this tee?
A 'swept' tee has a curved, gradual bend on the branch connection. This ensures that waste flows smoothly into the main pipe run in the correct direction, helping to prevent blockages compared to a sharp, 90-degree elbow.
Can I use this tee with push-fit waste pipes?
No, this is a solvent weld fitting and is only compatible with solvent weld waste pipes. It requires solvent cement for a permanent joint and is not designed for push-fit systems.
What are the available sizes for this swept tee?
The FloPlast ABS Solvent Weld Swept Tee is available in 32mm, 40mm, and 50mm diameter options.
How long does a solvent weld joint take to set?
The joint should be held for about 30 seconds after joining. It needs to set for at least 5 minutes before it can be moved, and the entire system should be left for 12 hours before testing.
What standards does this product conform to?
This fitting conforms to BS EN 1455-1:2000 and BS 5255 standards and is kitemarked.
Can I disassemble a solvent weld joint if I make a mistake?
No, solvent weld joints create a permanent bond. Once the solvent cement has set, the joint cannot be demounted. Any correction requires cutting out the faulty joint and re-making it.
Is this fitting suitable for underground drainage?
While made of durable ABS, this fitting is specifically designed for solvent weld waste pipe systems, typically used within buildings for above-ground drainage. Always check specific project requirements for underground applications.
Troubleshooting
Joint leaks after installation
Ensure surfaces were clean and dry before applying solvent cement. Re-check that the pipe was fully inserted and twisted for proper contact. Solvent weld joints are permanent; a leak may indicate a faulty joint that needs to be cut out and re-made.
Difficulty inserting pipe into fitting
Check for obstructions or damage inside the fitting socket and on the pipe end. Ensure the correct size fitting and pipe are being used. Lightly deburr the pipe end if necessary.
Solvent cement not setting properly
Ensure the correct type of solvent cement (SC250 recommended for ABS) is used. Verify that the temperature is within the recommended range for the solvent cement. Insufficient application of cement or poor contact can also affect setting.
Pros and Cons
Pros
High durability due to ABS material.
Ensures correct waste flow direction.
Suitable for a wide range of domestic and commercial uses.
Meets recognized industry standards.
Permanent, secure solvent weld joints.
Cons
Solvent weld joints are permanent and cannot be demounted.
Requires proper ventilation and safety precautions during installation due to solvent cement.
Not suitable for solvent-free jointing systems.
Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup & Installation:
Preparation: Ensure the outer wall of the pipe and the inner wall of the fitting are clean, dry, and free from dust, grit, or swarf.
Apply Solvent Cement: Apply a uniform layer of SC250 solvent cement to both the pipe end and the inside of the fitting socket.
Join: Immediately push the pipe fully into the fitting. Give it a slight twist (about a quarter turn) to ensure full contact and even spread of the cement.
Secure: Hold the joint firmly for approximately 30 seconds to prevent movement while the initial set occurs.
Clean: Wipe away any excess solvent cement with a damp cloth.
Curing: Allow the joint to set for at least 5 minutes before moving it. The installed system should be left for a minimum of 12 hours before testing under pressure.
Compatibility:
This fitting is designed exclusively for use with solvent weld waste pipes.
Available in 32mm, 40mm, and 50mm sizes. Ensure compatibility with your existing pipework dimensions.
Care:
The ABS material is generally maintenance-free. Regular flushing of waste pipes with hot water is recommended to prevent buildup.
Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents on the exterior of the fitting, as this could damage the finish.
Safety Precautions:
Always work in a well-ventilated area when using solvent cement.
Keep solvent cement away from heat sources and open flames.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If contact occurs, wash thoroughly with soap and water. Wear appropriate protective gloves and eyewear.
