Setup, Compatibility & Care
Sowing:
- Fill a seed tray with moist seed compost.
- Sow seeds thinly on the surface. Do not cover the seeds.
- Place the tray in a warm environment, ideally between 15–20°C.
- Keep the compost consistently moist.
Growing On:
- Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into trays, spacing them about 5 cm apart in fresh potting compost.
- It is often easier to transplant small clumps of seedlings rather than single ones.
- Keep seedlings in a bright location, but avoid direct sunlight.
Hardening Off & Planting Out:
- Gradually acclimate the young plants to outdoor conditions over 2–3 weeks.
- Plant out only when all danger of frost has passed.
- When planting into their final positions, avoid separating the seedling clumps; plant them together for the best effect.
Compatibility:
Lobelia 'Masterpiece Blue' thrives in sunny to partially shaded locations. It pairs exceptionally well with a wide range of bedding plants in mixed containers and baskets, including petunias, geraniums, and marigolds. It is suitable for all soil types, provided they are well-drained.
Care:
Water regularly, especially during dry periods and when grown in containers. Deadhead spent blooms occasionally to encourage further flowering. Minimal feeding is generally required if planted in fertile soil.
