Full details

The Dimplex Smithfield Electric Stove is ideal for homeowners seeking the traditional aesthetic of a wood-burning stove without the associated maintenance or ventilation requirements. By utilizing patented Optimyst technology, it delivers a remarkably realistic flame and smoke effect, making it a perfect centerpiece for living rooms or dens. While it excels in visual appeal and supplemental heating, users should be aware that it requires periodic water tank refills and occasional transducer cleaning to maintain the integrity of its signature flame effect.

FAQs

Does the stove require a chimney?

No, the Dimplex Smithfield is fully electric and does not require a chimney, flue, or venting.

Can I use the flame effect without the heat?

Yes, the flame effect operates independently, allowing you to enjoy the atmosphere during warmer months without the heater running.

How often do I need to refill the water tank?

The tank provides between 8 and 10 hours of continuous operation, depending on the intensity settings.

Is the unit safe around children and pets?

The stove surface stays relatively cool compared to traditional stoves, and because there is no real combustion, there are no dangerous fumes or embers.

Do I need to change light bulbs for the flame effect?

The unit utilizes long-life LEDs, which are designed for durability and rarely require replacement under normal usage.

Troubleshooting

Flame effect appears weak or non-existent

Check the water level in the reservoir and ensure the transducer is correctly seated and free of mineral buildup.

Heater is not producing heat

Verify the unit is plugged into a functional outlet and that the heat switch is set to the 1kW or 2kW position.

Gurgling sound during operation

This is typically normal as water moves from the tank to the sump; ensure the unit is on a level surface to minimize noise.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Incredibly realistic flame and smoke appearance
No ash, soot, or chimney requirements
Versatile heating options for seasonal comfort
Safe, cool-to-touch operation with visual appeal
Flame effect works with or without heat

Cons

Requires manual water tank refills
Occasional cleaning of the transducer is necessary
Limited to supplemental heating rather than primary heat source

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Installation of the Dimplex Smithfield is straightforward as it is a plug-and-play electric appliance, requiring only a standard electrical outlet. Because it uses a water-based system, it is essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions for initial priming of the transducer.

To ensure longevity and maintain the quality of the flame:

Use clean tap water or filtered water in the tank to prevent mineral buildup.
Periodically inspect the transducer for scale deposits; if the flame effect looks thin or uneven, a gentle cleaning is usually required.
Ensure the unit is placed on a level surface to prevent internal water leaks and ensure the mist generator functions correctly.
