Full details

The Prunus Lusitanica, commonly known as Portuguese Laurel, is a versatile evergreen shrub or tree that brings year-round beauty to any garden. Its glossy, dark green leaves, approximately 10-12 cm in length, provide a dense and attractive foliage. In early summer, it produces fragrant white flowers on long racemes (20-30 cm), followed by small purple fruits in autumn. This plant is ideal for hedging and borders due to its bushy habit and ability to grow to a substantial size while maintaining a dense structure. It is also drought-resistant and hardy in most UK conditions, tolerating temperatures down to -15°C. Thriving in well-drained soil, it prefers full sun to partial shade and is suitable for various settings, including informal gardens and urban courtyard areas. Pruning is best done at the end of the growing season in winter or early spring to maintain its shape. Attracts birds, adding a natural charm to your outdoor space. This low-maintenance plant flourishes with regular watering, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
