Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Upon receiving your tree, carefully remove it from its specialized shipping box. If planting directly into the ground, choose a location with well-draining soil and adequate sunlight. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and just as deep. Place the tree in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface. Backfill with soil, firm gently, and water thoroughly.
If planting in a container, select a pot of at least 100 litres. Use a good quality potting mix, ensuring it also drains well. Place the tree in the new pot, fill around the root ball, and water generously.
Compatibility:
This tree is suitable for most soil types and can be planted in any position, although it will perform best with good sunlight. It is a fully hardy outdoor variety.
Care:
- Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods and the first year after planting. For container-grown trees, check soil moisture frequently, as pots can dry out faster.
- Feeding: A general-purpose tree and shrub fertilizer can be applied in spring if needed, particularly for container-grown specimens.
- Pruning: Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to maintain shape or remove any dead or crossing branches. Container-grown trees can be pruned more regularly to manage size.
- Pest & Disease: Generally pest and disease resistant, but monitor for common garden pests.
